The Anatomy of a Full Effect DJ’s Party Set
In this blog post, we will break down the segments of different kinds of music that our Fun Party DJs will play during an average Party in Perth.
80s and 90s Throwback
The 80s and 90s are basically a party DJ’s treasure trove waiting to be plundered. Amongst the bounty is some of the smoothest RnB that was ever produced, so much cheesy but fun synth pop, and countless one hit wonders that you’ll somehow know all the words to even though you haven’t heard the song in years. This era is also home to old school hip hop, which we’ve never had any trouble getting down to and we’re sure you haven’t either.
80s and 90s Throwback
Farnsey, Barnsey, Braithewaite and Acca Dacca. They are the pillars upon which the Australian music industry was built, and they often feature in the soundtrack to the Perth Weddings and Parties we DJ at. Popular with young and old, we’ll never grow tired of seeing a full dance floor taking a look at each other …(long pause)… down the barrel of a gun!
Today’s Top 40
This is pretty obvious! Most people want to hear the jams they’ve been rocking out to in their cars or at the club, so these tracks make up around 20% of what we play over the night. It’s pretty much a given that we’ll play at least a few tracks from the Top 10, possibly more depending on how they are received.
A few mash-ups never go astray either, as these can be a fun way to merge today’s hits with timeless classics.

Slow Dance & Romance
This part of the night includes the Bride and Groom’s first dance and the few tracks that follow it. We bring the lights right down low, and invite all the lovers to hold each other tight and imagine there’s no one else on the floor. After all, a great wedding is not about celebrating just the Bride and Groom’s love, it’s about celebrating love generally.
Take it Slow
No party would be complete without paying tribute to the all time greats: Elvis, The Beatles, The Stones, Queen and Abba. This musical cohort may be more familiar to the baby boomers than Gen Y, but the agelessness of their hits has seen them become dance floor anthems for both young and old.
Who doesn’t love a rowdy dance floor singalong? Ultimately what people are looking for in the music at a fun party is recognisability – this means being able to dance to it, or, if they can’t dance, then sing. If they can’t do either, it’s all the more fun for the rest of us to observe.
Each night Full Effect parties with our clients, we make sure to include a number of songs that everyone will be able to get involved in (think Wonderwall, Hey Jude, Bohemian Rhapsody).
This category of music can basically be summed up with four letters (T, O, T and O) and a continent.
Bonus Round: Choose your Garnish!
These are some genres and music types less commonly found at weddings, that we can use to spice things up to make sure your party packs a punch:
